Gospel Matthew 17:10-13 Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him As they came down from the mountain the disciples put this question to Jesus, ‘Why do the scribes say that Elijah has to come first?’ ‘True;’ he replied ‘Elijah is to come to see that everything is once more as it should be; however, I tell you that Elijah has come already and they did not recognise him but treated him as they pleased; and the Son of Man will suffer similarly at their hands.’ The disciples understood then that he had been speaking of John the Baptist. Reflection In the old testament Elijah was one of the greatest prophet calling for people. John the Baptist had the same role . However both them suffered just like Christ suffered because the people refuse to listen to the good news and instead persecute the messenger. Why do people refuse to hear the good news? Gospel Matthew 11:28-30 My yoke is easy and my burden light Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’ Reflection Everyday all of us face all kind of challenges. The challenges can be so heavy it can bring us down. Many of us carry it without surrendering to the lord. Today Christ make an offer. Come if you are heavy leaden and i will give you rest. Do you believe in surrendering to the Lord? Let us pray.
