Gospel
Matthew 5:17-19
I have not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to complete them
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until its purpose is achieved. Therefore, the man who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven; but the man who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven.’
Reflection
Jesus clarifies that He did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. The commandments remain binding and true to their purpose. Our task is not to pick and choose what to follow, but to live the integrity of God’s law with love, letting it shape our actions and teachings. When we keep and teach these commandments, we participate in the kingdom of heaven; when we stray or lead others astray, we risk distance from that kingdom. The call is to alignment—heart, mind, and deed—with God’s enduring truth.
Reflection Question
How does I live out the fullness of God’s commandments in my everyday choices, and how can I teach others to do the same with humility and grace?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for your enduring Word and for inviting me to live faithfully in its light. Help me to understand the Law not as a burden but as a guide that leads to life. Grant me the wisdom to keep your commandments and the courage to teach others with love and humility. May my actions reflect your truth and bring others closer to your kingdom. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
