Gospel Luke 9:51-56 Jesus sets out for Jerusalem As the time drew near for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely took the road for Jerusalem and sent messengers ahead of him. These set out, and they went into a Samaritan village to make preparations for him, but the people would not receive him because he was making for Jerusalem. Seeing this, the disciples James and John said, ‘Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to burn them up?’ But he turned and rebuked them, and they went off to another village. Reflection What do we do when people offend us. We get upset and start thinking and acting illogically. The disciples were upset when rejected at a Samaritan village and suggested they be punished. Christ rebuked them . What can we learn from this episode. The first is stay focus on our mission and secondly accept rejection as part of life. Gospel Luke 9:46-50 The least among you all is the greatest An argument started between the disciples about which of them was the greatest. Jesus knew what thoughts were going through their minds, and he took a little child and set him by his side and then said to them, ‘Anyone who welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For the least among you all, that is the one who is great.’     John spoke up. ‘Master,’ he said ‘we saw a man casting out devils in your name, and because he is not with us we tried to stop him.’ But Jesus said to him, ‘You must not stop him: anyone who is not against you is for you.’ Reflection Why do people fight for power even though power corrupts. The main reason is because with power comes financial gain opportunity. How is it related to children? Little children represents love and humility. They focus on coming together and do not worry about who leads. Christ expects the same . D

Gospel Luke 16:19-31 Dives and Lazarus Jesus said to the Pharisees: ‘There was a rich man who used to dress in purple and fine linen and feast magnificently every day. Gospel Luke 9:43-45 They were afraid to ask him what he meant At a time when everyone was full of admiration for all he did, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘For your part, you must have these words constantly in your mind: “The Son of Man is going to be handed over into the power of men.”’ But they did not understand him when he said this; it was hidden from them so that they should not see the meaning of it, and they were afraid to ask him about what he had just said. Reflection Why does Christ call himself the son of man? Christ came into this world to bring salvation. He could have come down as God but chose to come as man born in an ordinary family. This is humility. He showed greater humility when he died on the cross showing greater humility. Do we live a life full of humility? Gospel Luke 9:18-22 'You are the Christ of God' One day when Jesus was praying alone in the presence of his disciples he put this question to them, ‘Who do the crowds say I am?’ And they answered, ‘John the Baptist; others Elijah; and others say one of the ancient prophets come back to life.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ It was Peter who spoke up. ‘The Christ of God’ he said. Gospel Luke 9:7-9 'John? I beheaded him; so who is this?' Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was being done by Jesus; and he was puzzled, because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. But Herod said, ‘John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?’ And he was anxious to see Jesus. Reflection Do  we feel guilty when we have done something wrong. When that happen it is called a guilty conscience. Herod develop a guilty conscience when he beheaded John and he thought Christ is a reincarnation of John the baptist. What he did not realise only God can clear the guilty conscience. Today we too face the same problem. How close are we to Christ our Lord? Let us pray Lord Jesus only you have the power to forgive sin. May the holy spirit continue to guide us to do what is right. Amen

Gospel Luke 9:1-6 'Take nothing for the journey' Jesus called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all devils and to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. Whatever house you enter, stay there; and when you leave, let it be from there. Gospel Luke 8:19-21 'My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God' The mother and the brothers of Jesus came looking for him, but they could not get to him because of the crowd. He was told, ‘Your mother and brothers are standing outside and want to see you.’ But he said in answer, ‘My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and put it into practice.’ Reflection Who are my brothers and sisters? Christ mentioned two critria. Those who hear the word of God and put into practice. Today Christians all over the world are considered brothers and sisters by virtue of following Christ. The question is do we listen to the word of God and put into practice. Let us pray Lord Jesus thy word is a lamb unto my feet and a light into my path. Gospel Luke 8:16-18 Anyone who has will be given more Jesus said to the crowds:     ‘No one lights a lamp to cover it with a bowl or to put it under a bed. No, he puts it on a lamp-stand so that people may see the light when they come in. For nothing is hidden but it will be made clear, nothing secret but it will be known and brought to light. So take care how you hear; for anyone who has will be given more; from anyone who has not, even what he thinks he has will be taken away.’ Reflection What does it mean to have more will be given more ? In the context of the material world the rich will get richer because they can multiply their wealth. In this context I believe those who have great knowledge will have greater knowledge because they quest for more. Those who have little knowledge will be easily swayed and thus lost everything. Gospel Luke 8:1-3 The women who accompanied Jesus Jesus made his way through towns and villages preaching, and proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom of God.
