They normally belong to the average income group. They are normally tough and usually not so polite. However Jesus chose this people to be fishers of man. What is the message Christ send to us? Gospel Luke 21:29-33 My words will never pass away Jesus told his disciples a parable: ‘Think of the fig tree and indeed every tree. As soon as you see them bud, you know that summer is now near. So with you when you see these things happening: know that the kingdom of God is near. I tell you solemnly, before this generation has passed away all will have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.’ Reflection The fig tree provide food for the Jews . It provides nourishment. Christ is the word of God. He provides nourishment for the soul Whoever listen to the word of God will have eternal life. Are we listening to the word of God ? Gospel Luke 21:1-4 The widow's mite As Jesus looked up, he saw rich people putting their offerings into the treasury; then he happened to notice a poverty-stricken widow putting in two small coins, and he said, ‘I tell you truly, this poor widow has put in more than any of them; for these have all contributed money they had over, but she from the little she had has put in all she had to live on.’ Reflection  When i read this Gospel  it always remind me of the collection bag. Normally it is filled with the smallest note. Even those who can give more will not. However the reading actually go beyond money. I feel he was  talking about surrender our life completely to God . Are we willing to surrender ourself completely to God? Let us pray Lord Jesus today you remind us just like the old lady at the temple let to give ourself completely to God. Gospel Luke 19:45-48 You have turned God's house into a robbers' den Jesus went into the Temple and began driving out those who were selling. ‘According to scripture,’ he said ‘my house will be a house of prayer. The chief priests and the scribes, with the support of the leading citizens, tried to do away with him, but they did not see how they could carry this out because the people as a whole hung on his words. Reflection The Garden of Eden is God's house where God meet Adam and Eve everyday until they were chase out for  disobeying God.  In remembrance man built temple. A temple is God's house. It is a place of worship and a place where man meet God. It is supposed to be a peaceful and quiet place. Christ in this reading was angry because the temple is turned into a market place. Gospel Luke 19:41-44 Jesus sheds tears over the coming fate of Jerusalem As Jesus drew near Jerusalem and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it and said, ‘If you in your turn had only understood on this day the message of peace! But, alas, it is hidden from your eyes! Yes, a time is coming when your enemies will raise fortifications all round you, when they will encircle you and hem you in on every side; they will dash you and the children inside your walls to the ground; they will leave not one stone standing on another within you – and all because you did not recognise your opportunity when God offered it!’ Reflection Christ was talking about the destruction of Jerusalem by Emperor Titus of Rome thirty years later. He can see this but not the people. His tears however was because the people could not accept his message of love and peace. What we can do to spread the message of love and peace? Gospel Luke 17:11-19 No-one has come back to praise God, only this foreigner On the way to Jerusalem Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered one of the villages, ten lepers came to meet him. They stood some way off and called to him, ‘Jesus! Master! Take pity on us.’ When he saw them he said, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ Now as they were going away they were cleansed. Finding himself cured, one of them turned back praising God at the top of his voice and threw himself at the feet of Jesus and thanked him. The man was a Samaritan. This made Jesus say, ‘Were not all ten made clean? The other nine, where are they? It seems that no one has come back to give praise to God, except this foreigner.’ And he said to the man, ‘Stand up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.’ Reflection Ten lepers came to Jesus. Only one came back. He was a foreigner and the only one thanking God .Jesus questioned what happened to the nine. He ended by saying

Jesus said to the Apostles: “Who among you would say to your servant who has just come in from plowing or tending sheep in the field, ‘Come here immediately and take your place at table’? Would he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for me to eat. Put on your apron and wait on me while I eat and drink. You may eat and drink when I am finished’? Is he grateful to that servant because he did what was commanded? So should it be with you. When you have done all you have been commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants; we have done what we were obliged to do.’” Reflection In this reading Christ send us a reminder a servant must wait on his master regardless on how much work he has put in. Gospel Luke 14:12-14 Do not invite those who might be able to invite you back Jesus said to his host, one of the leading Pharisees, ‘When you give a lunch or a dinner, do not ask your friends, brothers, relations or rich neighbours, for fear they repay your courtesy by inviting you in return. No; when you have a party, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; that they cannot pay you back means that you are fortunate, because repayment will be made to you when the virtuous rise again.’ Reflection Jesus said we should invite the poor the crippled when we organise a party because they cannot invite you back. How is it related to us. For whatever we do on earth do not expect anything in return . Instead be rewarded by expecting to be rewarded with eternal life in heaven.
