Gospel
John 14:6-14
To have seen me is to have seen the father
Jesus said to Thomas:
‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
No one can come to the Father except through me.
If you know me, you know my Father too.
From this moment you know him and have seen him.’
Philip said, ‘Lord, let us see the Father and then we shall be satisfied.’
‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip,’ said Jesus to him ‘and you still do not know me?
‘To have seen me is to have seen the Father,
so how can you say, “Let us see the Father”?
Do you not believe
that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words I say to you I do not speak as from myself:
it is the Father, living in me, who is doing this work.
You must believe me when I say
that I am in the Father and the Father is in me;
believe it on the evidence of this work, if for no other reason.
I tell you most solemnly,
whoever believes in me
will perform the same works as I do myself,
he will perform even greater works,
because I am going to the Father.
Whatever you ask for in my name I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask for anything in my name,
I will do it.’
In this passage, Jesus makes a profound declaration: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” He reassures his disciples that to know him is to know the Father, revealing the deep unity between himself and God. When Philip asks to see the Father, Jesus responds that seeing him is seeing the Father-emphasizing that his words and works are not his own, but the Father’s living in him6710.
This dialogue reveals Jesus as the unique and personal path to God, not just a guide but the very embodiment of God’s presence and love. Faith in Jesus is not about following a set of directions, but about relationship and trust in him as the living revelation of God5911. Jesus invites us to believe in his unity with the Father and promises that those who believe will share in his works-even greater ones-because he is returning to the Father. He assures us that whatever we ask in his name, he will do, so that God may be glorified.
Question for reflection:
How does recognizing Jesus as the visible face of the Father change the way I seek God in my daily life?
Short Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Help me to know you more deeply and to trust that in seeing you, I see the Father’s love. Strengthen my faith, so that I may follow you and share your love with others. May my prayers and actions always glorify the Father through you. Amen.
