Gospel
John 1:47-51
You will see heaven laid open, and the Son of Man
When Jesus saw Nathanael coming he said of him, ‘There is an Israelite who deserves the name, incapable of deceit.’ ‘How do you know me?’ said Nathanael. ‘Before Philip came to call you,’ said Jesus ‘I saw you under the fig tree.’ Nathanael answered, ‘Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel.’ Jesus replied, ‘You believe that just because I said: I saw you under the fig tree. You will see greater things than that.’ And then he added ‘I tell you most solemnly, you will see heaven laid open and, above the Son of Man, the angels of God ascending and descending.’
**Reflection:**
In this Gospel passage, Jesus reveals his divine knowledge of Nathanael, recognizing his sincerity and integrity. Nathanael’s honest response and declaration of Jesus as the Son of God show how encountering Jesus can inspire us to recognize his divine nature and our own need for faith. Jesus promises that those who believe will witness greater signs—heaven opened and angels ascending and descending—reminding us that faith opens the door to divine realities and spiritual blessings beyond what we can see with our eyes.
**Question for Reflection:**
How can I open my heart to see the signs of God's presence in my daily life and grow in faith?
**Short Prayer:**
Lord Jesus, open my eyes to see your divine presence in all circumstances. Help me to trust in your promises and to recognize your work in my life. Fill me with faith that I may experience the heavens opened and the angels of God guiding and protecting me. Amen.
