Gospel
John 3:31-36
The Father loves the Son and has entrusted everything to him
John the Baptist said to his disciples:
‘He who comes from above is above all others;
he who is born of the earth is earthly himself
and speaks in an earthly way.
He who comes from heaven
bears witness to the things he has seen and heard,
even if his testimony is not accepted;
though all who do accept his testimony
are attesting the truthfulness of God,
since he whom God has sent
speaks God’s own words:
God gives him the Spirit without reserve.
The Father loves the Son
and has entrusted everything to him.
Anyone who believes in the Son has eternal life,
but anyone who refuses to believe in the Son will never see life:
the anger of God stays on him.’
Reflection
This passage invites us to remember the unique authority and generosity that flow from the Father to the Son. The Son speaks not from earthly wisdom but from what he has seen in heaven, and God’s Spirit rests upon him without reserve. Believing in the Son means embracing eternal life, while disbelief keeps us in separation from the life God desires for us. The drama is simple and profound: the Father’s love overflows into the Son, the Son reveals God’s truth, and through faith in the Son, we receive life that transcends earthly limits.
Reflection Question
How does your daily life reflect a trust in Jesus as the one who comes from above and bears witness to what is true?
Prayer
Lord, thank you for sending your Son to speak your words and to pour out your Spirit upon us. Help me to recognize and receive the truth he proclaims, to trust him fully, and to live in the life that comes from believing in him. May your anger against sin be replaced by your mercy as I turn toward Jesus, the source of eternal life. Amen.
