Do the will of the Father

Matthew 12:46-50

My mother and my brothers are anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven

Jesus was speaking to the crowds when his mother and his brothers appeared; they were standing outside and were anxious to have a word with him. But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, ‘Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?’ And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven, he is my brother and sister and mother.’

Short Reflection

In this moment, Jesus redefines family not by blood, but by alignment with God’s will. The crowd’s arrival reveals a human instinct to seek closeness, yet Jesus invites a deeper belonging: participation in the Father’s will. To be “family” with Jesus is to choose obedience, to listen for God’s voice, and to live toward his vision of love, mercy, and truth. When we align our daily choices with the Father’s will, we join a family that spans beyond any label or lineage—rooted in relationship with Christ and bound by shared purpose.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, widen my heart to your will and deepen my desire to follow where you lead. Help me to live as your child, embracing your commandments with faith, hope, and love. May I value your presence in my everyday choices and draw others into your grace through my words and actions. Thank you for inviting me into your family through Christ. Amen.
