10 Happy those who hear the word of God

Luke 11:27-28

'Happy the womb that bore you and the breasts you sucked!'

As Jesus was speaking, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said, ‘Happy the womb that bore you and the breasts you sucked!’ But he replied, ‘Still happier those who hear the word of God and keep it!’

Reflection

In this brief encounter, Jesus does not diminish His mother’s honor but elevates the nature of true blessedness. While biological ties are significant, Jesus emphasizes that spiritual intimacy through obedience is even greater. The woman’s praise focused on physical heritage, yet Jesus points us toward a living relationship with the Father. To "hear and keep" the Word is the ultimate calling. It invites us to move beyond mere admiration of Christ to active participation in His divine will through daily faithfulness.

Question for Reflection

In your daily life, are you more focused on admiring Jesus from a distance, or are you actively seeking to put His teachings into practice?

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help me not only to listen to Your voice with my ears but to cherish it in my heart and follow it faithfully every day. Amen.
