Gospel
Luke 9:7-9
John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening, and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying, “John has been raised from the dead”; others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”; still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.” But Herod said, “John I beheaded. Who then is this about whom I hear such things?” And he kept trying to see him.
Reflection
Jesus work of evangelisation preceed him until a person of authority like Herod also begin to wonder. This reading gives us a message when proclaiming the word of God it may bring unwanted attention This unwanted attention may result in persecution. Are we willing to face the persecution ?
Let us pray
Lord Jesus you have shown us by being your witness we are faced with persecution. Grant us the strength to continue to be disciples of the word despite the obstacles and challenges we face .
Amen
