Gospel
Matthew 22:34–40
You shall love the Lord your God and your neighbor as yourself.
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a scholar of the law, tested him by asking, “Teacher, which commandment in the law is the greatest?” He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”
Reflection
In this Gospel Jesus gave two great commandment which not only compliment but also gave meaning to the 10 commandments from the old Testament. The first commandment is Love God with all your heart ,mind and soul. If we can do that we will be connected to God. The second commandment is love your neighbour as you love yourself. When you love yourself you will take good care of yourself physically ,emotionally and mentally. Nether will you sin against your body . Love for your neighbour meant not to sin against your neighbour by words and deed.
Let us pray
Lord Jesus you have thought us the two commandment that should goverm our life. Grant we pray we will put it into practice as a way of life.
Amen
