Gospel
Mark 13:33–37
Be watchful! You do not know when the Lord of the house is coming.
Jesus said to his disciples: “Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come. It is like a man traveling abroad. He leaves home and places his servants in charge, each with his own work, and orders the gatekeeper to be on the watch. Watch, therefore; you do not know when the lord of the house is coming, whether in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or in the morning. May he not come suddenly and find you sleeping. What I say to you, I say to all: ‘Watch!’”
Reflection
A priest once conducted a mass for the departed. When it is time for holy communion no one came . It is because they were not christian but believe their friend will be go to a better place if prayed to a christian God. This true story tells us how we enjoy the secular world but when dying we look for a priest so that we can get an express way to heaven. The truth is it does not work that way. As indicated in yesterday reading and today 's reading the jouney to heaven is not a 100 metre dash but a marathon. Are we running a marathon or a 100 meter dash as we make way to heaven?
Let us pray
Lord Jesus you told us to be vigilant and be watchful as we do not when is the hour coming. Grant we pray we will stay focus and run a marathon to your kingdom.
Amen
