Gospel
Matthew 17:9a, 10-13
Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him.
As they were coming down from the mountain, the disciples asked Jesus, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” He said in reply, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.” Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.
Reflection
This reading shows how the prophets came but the people did not recognise them. John baptist and they did not recognise him. It was the same with our lord Christ. Instead all of them suffered. Today we are no different. We too get blinded by difficulties in life or when too focus on the secular world. That is when we forgot our lord and salvation. Are we blinded by the way of the world?
Let is pray
Lord Jesus many times in our life we are blinded by the way of the world. Grant we pray pull the wool from our eyes so that we can follow the path to salvation.
Amen
