Gospel
Mark 1:7-11
You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.
This is what John the Baptist proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Reflection
Jesus was baptised with water. The baptism of water in Jesus case is to do what pleases the Father. However Christ will baptise people with the holy spirit. Today we receive baptism by water as away to remove mortal sin . Only that way can we be reconciled with God.We also receive baptism of the holy spirit during confirmation. Do we really believe in baptism of the water and the holy spirit as a way to be with God our Father?
Let us pray
Lord Jesus when you came down on earth your intention is to do the will of the father and that is getting the people to get closer to God. Through baptism of water and the holy spirit may we get closer to the Father through you.
Amen
