Gospel
Mark 2:23-28
The sabbath was made for people, not people for the sabbath.
As Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the sabbath, his disciples began to make a path while picking the heads of grain. At this the Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is unlawful on the sabbath?” He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions were hungry? How he went into the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the bread of offering that only the priests could lawfully eat, and shared it with his companions?” Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”
Reflection
The Sabbath is a day we keep holy and dedicate to God.However in today's reading Christ tells us the sabbath is not rigid. It is a day we show love and mercy to our loved ones and our neighbour. Today the church take Sunday as the Sabbath day. Suppose our parent is very sick at home do we go to church or stay at home. The answer is show love and mercy. Do we show love and mercy to our loved ones and neighbours?
Let us pray
Lord Jesus you have shown us the importance of keeping the Sabbath holy. However it is equally important to show love and mercy to our loved ones and neighbours. Help us to love and be merciful always oh Lord.
Amen
