Gospel
Mark 1:7–11
You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.
This is what John the Baptist proclaimed: “One mightier than I is coming after me. I am not worthy to stoop and loosen the thongs of his sandals. I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized in the Jordan by John. On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him. And a voice came from the heavens, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Reflection
The baptism of the Lord is a significant event in the church. The moment Christ was baptised it marks the crowning of a king and a path to righteousness. The king is to lead the people on earth to the kingdom of God. For us baptism with water symbolises our acceptance of Christ as our king and our original sin inherited from Adam and Eve is forgiven.Do we believe in baptism as a way for forgiveness of Sin and a path of righteousness?
Let us pray
Lord Jesus by going through the baptism of water you are showing to us a path of righteousness as a way to your kingdom. Help us to continue to live a life of righteousness oh Lord.
Amen
