Fasting in season of lent

Matthew 9:14-15
When the bridegroom is taken from them, then they will fast

John’s disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of mourning as long as the bridegroom is still with them? But the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then they will fast.’

Reflection
What is fasting during lent? A lot of people associate fasting with food which is a right thing to do. However there are other forms of fasting like doing away from smoking,drinking alcohol or even watching television. We do this because it is pleasing to God. It is sending a message while I love this but I love God more. What are we willing to give up during this season of lent?

Let us pray
Lord Jesus we love you. For us the season of lent is a time to reflect and seek forgiveness. Forgive us our sin oh Lord as we forgive those who sin against us.
