Gospel
John 6:52-59
My flesh is real food and my blood is real drink
The Jews started arguing with one another: ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’ they said. Jesus replied:
‘I tell you most solemnly,
if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood,
you will not have life in you.
Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood
has eternal life,
and I shall raise him up on the last day.
For my flesh is real food
and my blood is real drink.
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood
lives in me
and I live in him.
As I, who am sent by the living Father,
myself draw life from the Father,
so whoever eats me will draw life from me.
This is the bread come down from heaven;
not like the bread our ancestors ate:
they are dead,
but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever.’
He taught this doctrine at Capernaum, in the synagogue.
Gospel Luke 17:20-25 The kingdom of God is among you Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was to come, Jesus gave them this answer, ‘The coming of the kingdom of God does not admit of observation and there will be no one to say, “Look here! Look there!” For, you must know, the kingdom of God is among you.’ He said to the disciples, ‘A time will come when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man and will not see it. They will say to you, “Look there!” or, “Look here!” Make no move; do not set off in pursuit; for as the lightning flashing from one part of heaven lights up the other, so will be the Son of Man when his day comes. But first he must suffer grievously and be rejected by this generation.’ Short Reflection In this passage, Jesus redirects a fundamental human and religious question: "When?" The Pharisees are looking for a timetable, a visible political or cosmic event. Jesus' answer is startling. He says the Kingdom of God is...
Jesus Christ continues to give Himself to us as our Brother and our Lord. He is Life to our souls and spirits. Without God our lives in this world is just above life of the other creatures of the sea, sky and the land. We although will live on forever, but with whom and where do we want to go and live with? Our existence and beginning is with God and human beings are created above angels as they serve God in serving human beings. Both angels and saints are to live eternally with God. With Jesus as the Bread of Life, we will not be hungry and thirsty again, because earthly nourishment and food do not have eternal values and they go with the death of the bodies, but the Bread of Life in Jesus Christ is both food for the souls and the bodies as well. Jesus fasted forty days and nights without good and water and He lives on because His Soul was with God and nourished by God. His Body is secondary to the Soul. The Soul of Jesus Christ was fully fed by God and He was lifted higher than the law of human nature and the law for physical human beings did not apply to Him, instead the law submitted to the Law of God and the Spirit, because the laws for the physical world acknowledge God and in Jesus Christ as it's Master and Lord and these bow down to the order of God. Amen.
