Gospel
Matthew 9:14-15
When the bridegroom is taken from them, then they will fast
John’s disciples came to Jesus and said, ‘Why is it that we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not?’ Jesus replied, ‘Surely the bridegroom’s attendants would never think of mourning as long as the bridegroom is still with them? But the time will come for the bridegroom to be taken away from them, and then they will fast.’
Reflection
Why do we fast? The Catholic Church historically observes the discipline of fasting and abstinence at various times each year. For Catholics, fasting is the reduction of one's intake of food, while abstinence refers to refraining from meat. The purpose of fasting is spiritual focus, self-discipline, imitation of Christ, and performing penance (from Wikipedia) Do you observe fasting?
Let us pray
Lord Jesus we love you and want to be with you.
Amen
