Luke 6:1-5

The Son of Man is master of the sabbath

One sabbath Jesus happened to be taking a walk through the cornfields, and his disciples were picking ears of corn, rubbing them in their hands and eating them. Some of the Pharisees said, ‘Why are you doing something that is forbidden on the sabbath day?’ Jesus answered them, ‘So you have not read what David did when he and his followers were hungry how he went into the house of God, took the loaves of offering and ate them and gave them to his followers, loaves which only the priests are allowed to eat?’ And he said to them, ‘The Son of Man is master of the sabbath.’

Reflection

In the Jewish tradition the Sabbath is a day of rest in honor of God who created the world and everything in it When Christ say he is Lord of the Sabbath he is saying he has authority on the Sabbath. It is proven for today on Sunday we not only rest but also worship the Lord in honor of his death and resurrection. Do you worship the Lord on the Sabbath by going to church.

Let us pray

Lord Jesus you died on the cross for our sake. May we continue to worship and thank you by coming together every Sunday.
