Gospel
John 6:30-35
It is my Father who gives you the bread from heaven
The people said to Jesus, ‘What sign will you give to show us that we should believe in you? What work will you do? Our fathers had manna to eat in the desert; as scripture says: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’
Jesus answered:
‘I tell you most solemnly,
it was not Moses who gave you bread from heaven,
it is my Father who gives you the bread from heaven,
the true bread;
for the bread of God
is that which comes down from heaven
and gives life to the world.’
‘Sir,’ they said ‘give us that bread always.’ Jesus answered:
‘I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me will never be hungry;
he who believes in me will never thirst.’
Reflection
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reveals that He is the true bread from heaven, sent by the Father to give life to the world. While the crowd asks for a sign and remembers the manna their ancestors received, Jesus invites them to seek something deeper: Himself, the bread of life. He promises that whoever comes to Him will never hunger or thirst, pointing to a fulfillment that only faith in Him can bring. This reminds us that no earthly thing can truly satisfy our deepest longings-only Jesus can fill the emptiness within us and give us lasting peace and purpose.
Question for Reflection:
What are you truly hungering for in your life right now, and how can you let Jesus, the bread of life, satisfy that hunger?
Short Prayer:
Lord Jesus, you are the bread of life. Help me to seek you above all else and to trust that you alone can satisfy my deepest needs. Give me the grace to come to you with faith and to be nourished by your love each day. Amen.
