Gospel
John 16:12-15
The Spirit of truth will lead you to the complete truth
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘I still have many things to say to you
but they would be too much for you now.
But when the Spirit of truth comes
he will lead you to the complete truth,
since he will not be speaking as from himself
but will say only what he has learnt;
and he will tell you of the things to come.
He will glorify me,
since all he tells you
will be taken from what is mine.
Everything the Father has is mine;
that is why I said:
All he tells you
will be taken from what is mine.’
Reflection
In this passage from the Gospel of John, Jesus speaks to His disciples about the coming of the Spirit of truth, who will guide them into a deeper understanding of reality. He acknowledges that there are truths and insights that they are not yet ready to grasp. This highlights the importance of divine timing in spiritual growth. The Spirit, as Jesus describes, is not an independent entity but acts in harmony with Jesus and the Father, revealing truths that lead to a more profound relationship with God.
This message encourages us to remain open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Just as the disciples needed to wait for the Spirit to lead them, we too must be patient and trust in God's timing for our own understanding and growth. How often do we rush to find answers or seek knowledge on our own terms? This passage invites us to reflect on our willingness to be led and to trust in the revelations that come through the Spirit.
Question for Reflection:
How can I be more open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in my life, especially during times of uncertainty or confusion?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit, who leads us into all truth. Help us to be patient and receptive to Your guidance, trusting that You reveal what we need to know in Your perfect timing. May we seek to glorify You in all that we do and remain open to the revelations that draw us closer to You. Amen.
