Gospel
John 15:26-16:4
The Spirit of truth will be my witness
Jesus said to his disciples:
‘When the Advocate comes,
whom I shall send to you from the Father,
the Spirit of truth who issues from the Father,
he will be my witness.
And you too will be witnesses,
because you have been with me from the outset.
‘I have told you all this that your faith may not be shaken.
They will expel you from the synagogues,
and indeed the hour is coming
when anyone who kills you
will think he is doing a holy duty for God.
They will do these things
because they have never known
either the Father or myself.
But I have told you all this,
so that when the time for it comes
you may remember that I told you.’
Reflection
In John 15:26-16:4, Jesus prepares His disciples for the challenges they will face as witnesses to His message. He promises the coming of the Advocate, the Spirit of truth, who will empower them to stand firm in their faith, even amid persecution. This passage reminds us that the journey of faith is not always easy; it may involve suffering and misunderstanding, especially when we stand up for what we believe. Yet, Jesus reassures us that we are not alone—the Spirit accompanies us, guiding and strengthening us.
The call to be a witness can feel daunting, especially in a world that often challenges our beliefs. However, Jesus emphasizes the importance of remembering His words and teachings as a source of strength during difficult times. We are invited to reflect on how we can embody the Spirit of truth in our lives, standing firm in our faith and sharing the love of God with those around us.
Question for Reflection:
How can I be a witness to the truth of Christ in my daily life, especially in the face of adversity?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending the Spirit of truth to guide and support us. Help us to embrace our calling as witnesses to Your love and grace, even when it is difficult. Strengthen our faith and give us courage to stand firm in the face of challenges. May we always remember the teachings of Your Son and share His message with those around us. Amen.
