Gospel
John 17:20-26
Father, may they be completely one
Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said:
‘Holy Father,
I pray not only for these,
but for those also
who through their words will believe in me.
May they all be one.
Father, may they be one in us,
as you are in me and I am in you,
so that the world may believe it was you who sent me.
I have given them the glory you gave to me,
that they may be one as we are one.
With me in them and you in me,
may they be so completely one
that the world will realise that it was you who sent me
and that I have loved them as much as you loved me.
Father, I want those you have given me
to be with me where I am,
so that they may always see the glory you have given me
because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Father, Righteous One,
the world has not known you,
but I have known you,
and these have known that you have sent me.
I have made your name known to them
and will continue to make it known,
so that the love with which you loved me may be in them,
and so that I may be in them.’
**Reflection:**
In this heartfelt prayer, Jesus expresses a deep desire for unity among his followers. He prays not only for his disciples present with him but also for those who will believe through their message. The call for complete oneness—"as you are in me and I am in you"—mirrors the perfect unity within the Trinity itself. Jesus longs for his followers to be united in love and purpose, so that the world may believe in the divine mission sent by the Father. This unity is rooted in the love and glory shared between the Father and the Son, and it is meant to be a witness to the world of God's love.
As followers of Christ today, we are invited to reflect on the state of our own unity with others. Are we fostering love, understanding, and harmony within our communities? Do our actions reflect the divine love that Jesus prays may be in us?
**Question for reflection:**
How can I contribute to fostering unity and love within my family, community, or church, so that others may see God's love through me?
---
**Short Prayer:**
Holy Father, Jesus prayed for our unity, that we may be one as You are in Him and He is in You. Help us to live out that unity in love, humility, and understanding. Fill us with Your Spirit so that our lives reflect Your divine love and glory. May our unity serve as a powerful witness to the world of Your presence and Your love for all. Keep us rooted in Your truth and love, that we may be one with You and with each other. Amen.
