Gospel
Matthew 5:17-19
I have not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to complete them
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them. I tell you solemnly, till heaven and earth disappear, not one dot, not one little stroke, shall disappear from the Law until its purpose is achieved. Therefore, the man who infringes even one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be considered the least in the kingdom of heaven; but the man who keeps them and teaches them will be considered great in the kingdom of heaven.’
Reflection:
In this passage, Jesus reassures His followers that He has not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill them. His words remind us that God's commandments are enduring and purposeful, designed to guide us toward love, justice, and righteousness. Jesus emphasizes the importance of even the smallest commandments, highlighting that our fidelity to God's law reflects our commitment to His kingdom. As His disciples, we are called to uphold these teachings, not just in outward actions but from the heart, teaching others by example. Are there areas in my life where I might be neglecting God's commandments, or where I need to deepen my understanding and commitment to His law?
Question for reflection:
How can I ensure that my actions and teachings align with God’s commandments, striving not just for obedience but for genuine love and integrity?
Short prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your enduring Word and the commandments that guide us toward truth and love. Help me to understand Your law more deeply and to live it out faithfully in my daily life. May I teach others by example, showing the world the love and righteousness of Christ. Strengthen me to uphold Your commandments with joy and humility, always seeking to fulfill Your divine purpose. Amen.
