Matthew 7:1-5
Do not judge, and you will not be judged
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not judge, and you will not be judged; because the judgements you give are the judgements you will get, and the amount you measure out is the amount you will be given. Why do you observe the splinter in your brother’s eye and never notice the plank in your own? How dare you say to your brother, “Let me take the splinter out of your eye,” when all the time there is a plank in your own? Hypocrite! Take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye.’
**Reflection:**
This passage from Matthew reminds us of the importance of self-awareness and humility before judging others. Jesus encourages us not to be quick to criticize or condemn, recognizing that we all have flaws and imperfections of our own. Before pointing out the faults in others, we are called to examine ourselves honestly and address our own shortcomings. When we focus on improving ourselves first, we gain clarity and compassion, enabling us to help others with genuine love and humility.
Am I quick to judge others without considering my own faults? How can I approach others with compassion instead of criticism, while also being honest about my own need for growth?
**Prayer:**
Lord Jesus, you teach us the importance of humility and self-examination. Help us to be aware of our own faults before we judge others, and give us the grace to address our shortcomings with honesty and humility. Fill our hearts with compassion and understanding, so that we may see others through your eyes of love. Guide us to be gentle and forgiving, fostering unity rather than division.
Amen.
