Gospel
Matthew 6:19-23
Store up treasure for yourselves in heaven
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Do not store up treasures for yourselves on earth, where moths and woodworms destroy them and thieves can break in and steal. But store up treasures for yourselves in heaven, where neither moth nor woodworms destroy them and thieves cannot break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
‘The lamp of the body is the eye. It follows that if your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light. But if your eye is diseased, your whole body will be all darkness. If then, the light inside you is darkness, what darkness that will be!’
**Reflection:**
In today’s Gospel, Jesus invites us to reconsider what we value most. He reminds us that worldly possessions, though tempting, are fleeting and vulnerable to decay and theft. Instead, He encourages us to invest in treasures that endure—those stored in heaven through acts of love, kindness, and faithfulness. Where we place our treasures reveals the true condition of our hearts. If our focus is on material wealth, our hearts may become distracted and restless; but if we choose to prioritize spiritual riches, our lives will be filled with light and purpose. The analogy of the eye as the lamp of the body challenges us to examine what we are truly seeking. Are we allowing the light of Christ to shine through our lives, or are we allowing darkness to take hold?
**Question for Reflection:**
What treasures am I currently storing up, and how do they shape the direction of my heart and life?
**Prayer:**
Heavenly Father, thank You for the reminder that true riches are found in Your eternal kingdom. Help me to focus not on the fleeting treasures of this world, but on treasures that bring lasting joy and peace. Open my eyes to see the light of Christ within me, and guide my heart to seek what truly matters—your love, grace, and eternal life. May my life reflect the light of Your presence, and may I always keep my treasures in heaven where they belong. Amen.
