Gospel
Matthew 5:13-16
Your light must shine in the sight of men
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled underfoot by men.
‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill-top cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in the sight of men, so that, seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven.’
Reflection:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our vital role as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Just as salt enhances flavor and preserves, our actions and words should bring goodness and integrity to those around us. Our light, like a beacon on a hill, should shine brightly through acts of kindness, compassion, and love, so others may see God's goodness in us and be drawn closer to Him. It challenges us to examine whether our lives truly reflect the light of Christ or if we have hidden it away. Are we willing to let our light shine openly, inspiring others to praise God through our good works?
Question for Reflection:
In what ways can I intentionally let my light shine more brightly in my daily life to inspire others and give glory to God?
Short Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for calling me to be the salt and light in this world. Help me to live authentically and boldly, reflecting Your love through my actions and words. Shine through me so that others may see Your goodness and be led to praise You. Fill me with Your Spirit, that I may always be a beacon of hope and kindness. Amen.
