Gospel
Luke 15:3-7
There will be rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner
Jesus spoke this parable to the scribes and Pharisees:
‘What man among you with a hundred sheep, losing one, would not leave the ninety-nine in the wilderness and go after the missing one till he found it? And when he found it, would he not joyfully take it on his shoulders and then, when he got home, call together his friends and neighbours? “Rejoice with me,” he would say “I have found my sheep that was lost.” In the same way, I tell you, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner than over ninety-nine virtuous men who have no need of repentance.’
**Reflection:**
This parable reminds us of God's immense love and compassion for each individual. Just as a shepherd leaves the ninety-nine sheep to seek the one that is lost, God is deeply committed to each of us, especially when we stray and need forgiveness. The joy in heaven over one repentant sinner highlights how precious each person is in God's eyes. It invites us to reflect on how we respond to those who have strayed and to consider how eager we are to seek reconciliation and forgiveness in our own lives. Are we willing to reach out to others with the same love and compassion that God shows us?
**Question for Reflection:**
How can I show more compassion and joy when someone seeks forgiveness or turns back to God?
**Prayer:**
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your boundless love that seeks us out and rejoices when we return to You. Help me to mirror Your compassion, to be patient with those who have strayed, and to rejoice in their repentance. Fill my heart with joy and generosity, that I may always celebrate Your grace in the lives of others and be eager to extend forgiveness and understanding. May I never forget how precious each person is in Your sight.
Amen.
