Gospel
Matthew 9:32-37
The harvest is rich but the labourers are few
A man was brought to Jesus, a dumb demoniac. And when the devil was cast out, the dumb man spoke and the people were amazed. ‘Nothing like this has ever been seen in Israel’ they said. But the Pharisees said, ‘It is through the prince of devils that he casts out devils.’
Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness.
And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest.’
This Gospel shows Jesus healing a mute man possessed by a demon, demonstrating God's power over evil. While people marvel, the Pharisees dismiss it as demonic work, revealing how pride blinds us to God's actions.Jesus then tours towns teaching and healing, but what moves him most is seeing crowds who are "harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd." His compassionate response leads to the famous declaration: "The harvest is rich but the labourers are few."This passage calls us to see others through Jesus' eyes of compassion and to become laborers in God's harvest, caring for those who are spiritually lost and hurting.
🌾 Gospel Reflection – Matthew 9:32–37
“The harvest is rich but the labourers are few.”
🪞Question for Reflection:
Am I open and willing to be one of God's labourers—to bring hope, healing, or love to those who are lost, suffering, or in need around me?
🙏Short Prayer:
Lord of the harvest,
Open my eyes to see the needs around me,
and give me the courage and compassion
to serve where you call me.
Make me a willing worker in your field,
bringing your love to those who feel forgotten.
Amen.
