Matthew 13:24-30
Let them both grow till the harvest
Jesus put another parable before the crowds: ‘The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. While everybody was asleep his enemy came, sowed darnel all among the wheat, and made off. When the new wheat sprouted and ripened, the darnel appeared as well. The owner’s servants went to him and said, “Sir, was it not good seed that you sowed in your field? If so, where does the darnel come from?” “Some enemy has done this” he answered. And the servants said, “Do you want us to go and weed it out?” But he said, “No, because when you weed out the darnel you might pull up the wheat with it. Let them both grow till the harvest; and at harvest time I shall say to the reapers: First collect the darnel and tie it in bundles to be burnt, then gather the wheat into my barn.”’
Reflection on Matthew 13:24-30
The Parable of the Wheat and the Darnel reveals the patience and wisdom of God in allowing both good and evil to coexist in the world until the time of judgment. The farmer’s choice to let the wheat and weeds grow together reflects God’s mercy, giving space for growth, repentance, and transformation, while trusting in His ultimate justice. This challenges us to avoid hasty judgments and to focus on nurturing the good within and around us, trusting God’s timing for the harvest. It invites us to reflect on our own lives: are we cultivating the wheat of faith, hope, and love, even amidst challenges?
Question for Reflection:
How can I focus on fostering the good in my life and others, trusting God’s plan for justice and redemption?
Prayer
Loving God, You sow seeds of goodness in our hearts and world. Grant us patience to grow in faith amidst life’s challenges, and wisdom to trust Your perfect timing. Help us nurture what is good and leave judgment to You, so we may bear fruit for Your kingdom. Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
