Matthew 13:1-9
A sower went out to sow
Jesus left the house and sat by the lakeside, but such large crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stood on the beach, and he told them many things in parables.
He said, ‘Imagine a sower going out to sow. As he sowed, some seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up straight away, because there was no depth of earth; but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Listen, anyone who has ears!’
Gospel Reflection: Matthew 13:1–9 – The Sower and the Seeds
In this parable, Jesus invites us to reflect on the condition of our hearts. The seed is God's Word—always full of life and power. But the harvest depends on where it lands. Are we like the path, hardened and distracted? Are we the rocky ground, excited at first but shallow? Are we among thorns, where worries and desires choke our faith? Or are we the rich soil—open, deep, and ready to bear fruit?
This parable reminds us that we are responsible for preparing our hearts. God generously sows His Word; our job is to receive it well, nourish it, and let it grow into a life of love and action.
💭 Question for Reflection:
What kind of "soil" is my heart today—and what might I need to do to become more like the rich soil?
🙏 Short Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to be good soil for Your Word. Remove the distractions, fears, and doubts that keep me from growing in faith. Let Your truth take root deep within me and bear fruit in my thoughts, words, and actions. Amen.
