Gospel
How I wish it were blazing already!
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘I have come to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were blazing already! There is a baptism I must still receive, and how great is my distress till it is over!
‘Do you suppose that I am here to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on a household of five will be divided: three against two and two against three; the father divided against the son, son against father, mother against daughter, daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law, daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.’
🌿 Gospel Reflection – Luke 12:49-53
In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks of bringing “fire” to the earth – a symbol of purification, transformation, and the passionate love of God. His mission is not about comfort or superficial peace, but radical truth that challenges the status quo. This truth often divides, even within families, because following Christ requires total commitment and can clash with worldly values. The “fire” He brings calls each of us to deep personal conversion and courageous witness, even when it causes discomfort or conflict.
🧠 Question for Reflection:
Am I willing to stand firm in my faith, even if it means facing misunderstanding or rejection from others?
🙏 Short Prayer:
Lord Jesus, ignite in me the fire of Your love and truth. Give me the courage to follow You wholeheartedly, even when it is difficult. May I be a witness to Your light in a divided world. Amen.
