Gospel
Luke 7:31-35
'We played the pipes, and you wouldn't dance'
Jesus said to the people:
‘What description can I find for the men of this generation? What are they like? They are like children shouting to one another while they sit in the market-place:
‘“We played the pipes for you,
and you wouldn’t dance;
we sang dirges,
and you wouldn’t cry.”
‘For John the Baptist comes, not eating bread, not drinking wine, and you say, “He is possessed.” The Son of Man comes, eating and drinking, and you say, “Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Yet Wisdom has been proved right by all her children.’
Gospel Reflection – Luke 7:31-35
In this passage, Jesus highlights the stubbornness and fickleness of people. No matter what approach God uses—whether through the sternness of John the Baptist or the compassion and openness of Jesus—they still refuse to respond. It’s a reminder that the issue isn't always the message, but the condition of our hearts. Are we truly open to hearing God's voice, even when it challenges our expectations or lifestyle?
Question for Reflection:
Am I rejecting God's message because it doesn’t come in the form I prefer?
Short Prayer:
Lord, soften my heart to hear Your voice in every moment and through every messenger. Help me to respond with humility and trust, even when Your message challenges me. Amen.
