Luke 16:10-13
You cannot be the slave of both God and money
Jesus said to his disciples: ‘The man who can be trusted in little things can be trusted in great; the man who is dishonest in little things will be dishonest in great. If then you cannot be trusted with money, that tainted thing, who will trust you with genuine riches? And if you cannot be trusted with what is not yours, who will give you what is your very own?
‘No servant can be the slave of two masters: he will either hate the first and love the second, or treat the first with respect and the second with scorn. You cannot be the slave both of God and of money.’
This passage reminds us of the importance of faithfulness in small matters as a foundation for greater trust, and it challenges us to choose our true master wisely—God or money. Jesus warns that divided loyalty is impossible; devoted service belongs only to one master.
Reflection
Are there areas in my life where I am allowing money or material concerns to take priority over my commitment to God? How might I practice faithful stewardship in the small things today to grow in integrity and trustworthiness before God?
Question for Reflection
What practical steps can I take to ensure that God, and not money, holds the highest place in my heart and choices?
Prayer
Lord, help me to be faithful in the little things and to serve You wholeheartedly. Teach me to trust in Your provision and to guard my heart from the lure of wealth. May I choose You above all else and live with integrity in Your sight. Amen.
