Gospel
Luke 9:7-9
'John? I beheaded him; so who is this?'
Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was being done by Jesus; and he was puzzled, because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. But Herod said, ‘John? I beheaded him. So who is this I hear such reports about?’ And he was anxious to see Jesus.
**Reflection:**
In this passage, Herod’s confusion reflects a deeper human curiosity about Jesus’ true identity. Despite his previous actions, Herod recognizes that Jesus’ presence and the reports about Him are extraordinary. It reminds us that Jesus’ identity can sometimes be misunderstood or obscured, but ultimately, His life and mission reveal who He truly is—the Son of God. Like Herod, we are invited to seek understanding and to encounter Jesus personally, allowing His truth to clarify our perceptions.
**Question for reflection:**
How might I seek a deeper understanding of Jesus’ true identity in my life today?
**Short prayer:**
Lord Jesus, reveal Yourself to me anew. Help me to see beyond confusion and hearsay, and to recognize You as the Son of God. Strengthen my faith and guide me in truly knowing and following You. Amen.
