Gospel
Luke 9:18-22
'You are the Christ of God'
One day when Jesus was praying alone in the presence of his disciples he put this question to them, ‘Who do the crowds say I am?’ And they answered, ‘John the Baptist; others Elijah; and others say one of the ancient prophets come back to life.’ ‘But you,’ he said ‘who do you say I am?’ It was Peter who spoke up. ‘The Christ of God’ he said. But he gave them strict orders not to tell anyone anything about this.
‘The Son of Man’ he said ‘is destined to suffer grievously, to be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes and to be put to death, and to be raised up on the third day.’
**Reflection:**
In this Gospel passage, Jesus invites His disciples—and us—to reflect on His true identity. While others may have seen Him as a prophet or a miracle-worker, Peter confesses Him as the Christ of God. However, Jesus also reveals the path He must walk—a journey of suffering, rejection, and death, culminating in resurrection. This reminds us that following Jesus involves embracing both His divine identity and His mission, which includes sacrifice and love. Recognizing Jesus as the Christ calls us to accept His way, even when it leads us through challenges.
**Reflection Question:**
How am I willing to accept the sacrifices that come with following Jesus as the Christ?
**Short Prayer:**
Lord Jesus, You are the Christ of God. Help me to recognize Your true identity and to embrace Your mission with faith and courage. Strengthen me to carry my own cross and to follow You faithfully, trusting in the promise of new life. Amen.
