Gospel
Luke 19:45-48
You have turned God's house into a robbers' den
Jesus went into the Temple and began driving out those who were selling. ‘According to scripture,’ he said ‘my house will be a house of prayer. But you have turned it into a robbers’ den.’
He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, with the support of the leading citizens, tried to do away with him, but they did not see how they could carry this out because the people as a whole hung on his words.

Short Reflection
Jesus' action in the Temple is a powerful, physical demonstration of his zeal for God's holiness. He is not merely tidying up a marketplace; he is cleansing a sacred space that had been corrupted by greed and exploitation. His anger is righteous, directed at those who obstructed true worship and took advantage of the poor and the devout. This passage challenges us to consider what "sacred spaces" in our own lives—our hearts, our churches, our communities—need cleansing. Are there habits, attitudes, or priorities that have turned a place meant for prayer and connection with God into a "den" of distraction, self-interest, or empty ritual?
Short Question
What needs to be "driven out" of my heart so that it can become a true house of prayer for God?
Short Prayer
Lord Jesus, you cleanse the Temple with holy zeal. Please enter the temple of my heart now. Drive out all that distracts me from you and help me to clear away the noise of the world. Make my soul a true house of prayer, where I can listen for your voice and worship you in spirit and in truth. Amen
