Gospel
John 6:35-40
It is my Father's will that whoever sees the Son should have eternal life
Jesus said to the crowd:
‘I am the bread of life.
He who comes to me will never be hungry;
he who believes in me will never thirst.
But, as I have told you,
you can see me and still you do not believe.
All that the Father gives me will come to me,
and whoever comes to me I shall not turn him away;
because I have come from heaven, not to do my own will,
but to do the will of the one who sent me.
Now the will of him who sent me
is that I should lose nothing of all that he has given to me,
and that I should raise it up on the last day.
Yes, it is my Father’s will
that whoever sees the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life,
and that I shall raise him up on the last day.’
Reflection
Jesus presents himself as the bread of life who satisfies more deeply than physical hunger. The Father’s will is centered on drawing all who see the Son into eternal life, not turning anyone away who comes to Jesus in faith. This passage invites us to trust that divine intention—that belief in Jesus leads to life that lasts beyond this world. When we feel distant or hungry for meaning, we are invited to come to Jesus again, believing that he sustains us, longs to raise us on the last day, and holds us securely in the Father’s plan.
Reflection Question
- In what concrete ways can I come to Jesus today with renewed trust that he sustains me and will raise me up on the last day?
Prayer
Loving Father, thank you for sending your Son, the bread of life, to satisfy the deepest hunger of my heart. Help me to turn to Jesus with childlike faith, to trust that he sustains me now and promises eternal life. Draw me into your will daily, that I may believe more deeply that I am held securely in your hands and will be raised with Christ on the last day. Amen.
