Gospel
Mark 16:15-20
Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News
Jesus showed himself to the Eleven and said to them:
‘Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.’
And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it.
Reflection
This passage calls believers to a bold, expansive mission: go to the whole world and proclaim the Good News. It anchors the mission not in human strength but in the presence and power of Jesus—there with them as they go, confirming the message with signs. The promises—believing and being baptized leading to salvation, speaking in tongues, healing, protection in dangerous moments—point to a God who meets people where they are, transforms lives, and invites trust beyond fear. The ascension assures us that Jesus remains sovereign and intercedes as we witness, working with us as the gospel spreads. Our task is simple in form yet demanding in scope: bear witness, trust Jesus, expect His enabling presence, and respond with faith when challenged or perilous paths open before us.
One reflection question
- How does trusting Jesus’ ongoing presence shape the way I share the Good News in my everyday life, especially in moments of doubt or danger?
Prayer
Loving God, thank You for the Great Commission and for the promise that You are with us always. Help me to carry Your Good News with humility and courage, to love others as You do, and to rely on Your power rather than my own. Grant me wisdom in my words, boldness in my actions, and grace in my failures. May Your Spirit work through me to bring healing, hope, and transformation to those I encounter. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, amen.
