Matthew 11:25-30
You have hidden these things from the wise and revealed them to little children
Jesus exclaimed, ‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.
‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’
Reflection
In this passage, Jesus invites those who feel burdened to find rest in him. He contrasts human wisdom with childlike trust, showing that the deepest revelations of God come not to the proud or highly learned, but to those who approach with humility and openness. Jesus offers a different kind of learning—not one of strict rules or heavy pressure, but of gentle guidance. The yoke he bears is not crushing; it is shaped by mercy and ease for the soul. When we follow him, we exchange struggle for rest, and we discover that true strength is found in surrender to the One who loves us.
Reflection Question
How might I approach God today with childlike trust, allowing Jesus’ gentle guidance to ease my burdens rather than relying on my own efforts or wisdom?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, I praise you for revealing your truth to those who seek you with humble hearts. Help me to cast off pride and busyness, and to rest in Jesus’ gentle yoke. Teach me to learn from him and to find true rest for my soul. May I trust more deeply in your love and share in the simplicity of childlike faith. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
